Connected Rogers

News

Introducing Rogers Remote TV Manager, your new wingman for managing your PVR from anywhere. It’s accessible online or from a free app for iPhone, BlackBerry or Android devices. Currently it’s only available for use with the Rogers 8300 PVR.

Here’s a look at all the things the Remote TV Manager can do for you – presented with extreme scenarios you might find yourself in – because when it comes to your entertainment, nothing should get in the way.

Recording and Scheduling

Sure, people carry their iPhones when skydiving. It could happen. Not five seconds after pulling the cord, it occurs to you – isn’t there a Ricky Gervais Show special on HBO tonight? No problemo. A quick launch of the app on your iPhone, Android or BlackBerry, a quick search and voila: you’re all set.

Record Multiple Episodes

Of course, just like with your PVR, you could have also used the app or site to search for and program your PVR to record the Ricky Gervais Show every week as you descend thousands of metres to the ground.

Notifications

Unlike that chute of yours, Remote TV Manager not only tells you when a recording has been set and when it’s been successfully recorded, but it also warns you when there’s a conflict – such as trying to record three shows at a time.

Cancel and Erase

Midway through your Monday morning routine – another day, another lion to tame – you realize you forgot to erase Million Dollar Booty from your PVR. Good thing this two-ring-circus that signs your paycheque has reliable Wi-Fi. You load the app, and in a few seconds the film is erased.

Cancel Recordings

Besides erasing recordings, you can also cancel scheduled recordings. You know, in case you don’t want your wife to know about your Desperate Housewives obsession.

Search and Scroll

Isn’t it just like your friends to talk you into a weekend of whitewater rafting – boooorrrinngg – when you could be cosy on the couch watching Inception in HD. Curious to see what you’re missing, you load up the app on your iPhone and search to see when Inception is on next.

Title, Actor or Genre Search

Sure you’re steering, but thinking of Leonardo DiCaprio’s dreamy eyes gets you wondering what other movies of his are airing. Just type in his name and you’ll be watching The Departed when you get home – if you make it.

Two Ways in

Remotely access your Rogers PVR in two ways – using the app or over the internet

APP IT: Download the App

Visit BlackBerry App World, the iTunes App Store or Android Market to download the free Rogers Remote TV Manager app. Follow the prompts to link into your PVR.

SURF IT: Go to Rogers.com

Visit rogers.com to gain access to the Remote TV Manager service. Log in (or set up an account first), then follow the cues to the PVR service.

Note: in all cases mobile apps incur data charges; user must have a data plan to access and use the app. App accessible to non-Rogers Wireless customers who have a Rogers Digital TV account and PVR.

What’s A PVR?

If you’re asking this question, you’re in for a treat

A personal video recorder, or PVR as it’s known around here, is sort of like an external computer hard drive, except better. Combined with a digital cable subscription, which gives you myriad HD channels, you can:

  • Pause, rewind and instantly replay TV programs you’re watching
  • Record two programs at once, even if you’re watching a third pre-recorded program
  • Record a show while watching a different channel
  • Record up to 90 hours of standard definition programming or up to 20 hours of HD programming*
  • Get Picture-In-Picture on any TV with no additional hardware
  • Set up future recordings
  • Add additional storage capacity with the PVR Extender500**

I found this app really useful on my BlackBerry 9900… I upgraded to a BlackBerry Z10 on the day it was released and have been missing this ever since!

When are you going to either:
A> Port your Android version to BB10 and release it to BlackBerry World
B> Release a native BB10 version to BlackBerry World?
I just upgraded to a NextBox 3.0 and would love to have this on my phone…

You’ve made some really good points there. I looked on the net to learn more about the issue and found most people will go along with your views on this website.

I have been trying to get a manual for my remote and have talked to your people by phone twice and they said it would be in the mail. I have had the system installed and your service person did not leave a manual. As a result I do not know how to use all of the functions that are on the system. Please send me the info.

I see there is no place to leave a comment on the new menu system I received when I updated to an HD box.
I wish I could go back.
